CRAPISODE I

review written 1/19/2004

It took me longer than I care to admit to finally see this movie. The opening logos and crawl were cute and nice-looking if not exactly top-notch humor. I liked the pan from the stars coming down to the college dorm. It put me in mind of my own dorm from which I write these words.

And hey, cool Podracer helmet. I rather liked the slow pan over all the merchandise, and of course having the guy wake up at that particular time is inspired.

I liked how Cole mumbled and rushed through the letter, and the music choices were inspired. I just wish it wasn't so obvious the lightsaber was a plastic toy, as this is the object that propels the rest of the story. Or can we argue that maybe it's only Cole's belief in the lightsaber's reality that makes it real?

I liked the use of "Happy Together" by the Turtles, just 'cause I like the song. I like the "Utinni" shout on the Jawa attack as well.

But man, this flick loses points for Mac Plus desecration.

The film gets rather formless at this point, inspired Jar Jar humor or not. Even when things are kind of funny, I'm wondering what the point is. It plays more like Star Wars sketch comedy than a story about Cole.

Very ineffective Vader, but cute jab at Kevin Anderson. Eh. Then things just sort of end.

This was looking pretty good for a while but just plain ran out gas. Still, there's some laughs.
