EPISODE II TRAILER "AUSTRALIAN"

review written 2/22/2003

The Anonymous Australian Director, not to be confused with the Anonymous Director, has turned in a wonderful project, even better than the one done by his non-Aussie counterpart.

(Damn, this is gonna be a tricky thing to write clearly.)

It got me pumped for AOTC, I'll tell you that much.

A fan trailer made from found footage is nothing new. But, like many fan films, it's not what you do, it's how you do it. And this does it well. He makes his own CG shots when he wants. He takes footage from two completely different movies and composites it in the same shot (Padmé at 0:42 is my favorite example). He makes us see footage we've seen before in a whole new light (I've seen Artoo's closeup at 1:17 a thousand times before and couldn't figure out where it came from).

He's showed us things in Star Warseven Star Wars hasn't shown us. How can you not love that shot of Palpatine at 0:50? And what did you think of Dooku after seeing him right afterwards? I sure would have loved to see him in some Senate sequences! And Qui-Gon at 1:11, he would have been nice to see in AOTC.

My hat is off to you, anonymous one. You took something that had been done well, and did it better.
