STAR WARS REMAKE

I can't believe this film evaded me for this long. This was a fan film before the term existed. A couple of kids put it together. How? I'll never know. I mean, I know it involved film (yes, film), costumes, ingenuity, hard work... well, whatever.

There was no sound. I had the Rent soundtrack going, so I used that. (Okay, it's not a perfect fit. Sue me.) The compression was pretty intense. I forgave them.

And then the fun starts.

The starship effects in this—toys, models, what have you—are more impressive than some fan films today pull off with CGI. There are full costumes. There's an Artoo and a Threepio. There's sets, real sets. And locations you'll "recognize" from ANH.

How the hell did this come together?

You'll see the same shots you've seen in the films, recreated. You'll see Jawas (a bit much of them, though). A freakin' sandcrawler and all the droids that hang out in it.

People who make backyard lightsaber duels, consider yourselves put to shame.

Sometimes the best part of this film is seeing what parts of ANH the creators remember to, well, recreate. Like the little droid that scoots around the homestead at night. Or some of the very specific aliens in the cantina. Or the pattern on Biggs' helmet in the Battle of Yavin.

Yes, they do the freakin' Battle of Yavin.

Show some respect to this pioneer in fan film history. You will be amazed.
